Save much-needed time – not to mention your sanity – with these cleaning hacks that take advantage of everyday items to tackle your home’s toughest glass cleaning needs.
Put these tried-and-true glass cleaning hacks to the test
- Get a little extra use out of used dryer sheets for buffing out hard water spots.
The perfect fix for bathroom mirrors, shower doors, and even water fixtures. - Clean cloudy glasses with vinegar.
Make those glasses sparkle again with nothing but a paper towel, a little white vinegar, and some elbow grease. Want the no-hands version? Place a cup of vinegar in a dishwasher safe bowl on the bottom rack, placing your glasses on the top. Skip the detergent, and voila! Same look, less work. - Clean windows sans the streaks with the help of a coffee filter.
Better than newspaper – no ink stains! - Remove scratches from windows with non-gel toothpaste.
Apply a dab of toothpaste to a soft cloth, then scrub in a circular motion. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, then dry. - De-gunk sticker remnants with alcohol.
A little rubbing alcohol and a bit of elbow grease cuts sticker crud on car and home windows. (Thanks kids.) - Use black tea to clean your bathroom mirror.
Out of vinegar? No problem. Brew a strong cup of tea and let it cool for about an hour. Transfer to a spray bottle or damp cloth, and let tea’s tannic acid do the work you don’t want to. - Clean eyeglasses with dish soap.
Put a little on your (clean) hands or soft cloth, add some water, gently rub, rinse, and dry with a lint-free cotton cloth. - Clean a glass cooktop with vinegar and baking soda.
Spray down the cooktop with white vinegar, wiping clean to degrease. Then sprinkle liberally with baking soda. Soak an old bath towel in hot water (or hot water with a little dish soap if you struggle with the grease). Then set a timer for exactly 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, swirl the rag in circles, using the baking soda as a polish. Make sure all baking soda is removed, then let the cooktop dry. - Pick up broken glass with a piece of bread.
Never leave tiny shards to stick your hands or feet again. Break out a slice of your trusty sandwich bread, then put it to work by pressing down over areas where glass smithereens remain.
