Windshield Repair and Replacement

Having a broken or damaged windshield on your car can be a stressful experience, but rest assured, Glass Doctor® of Utah County is here to assist you. We will help you by determining the extent of the damage, and whether your vehicle will require windshield repair or a replacement. We are proud to offer Salt Lake City, Provo and surrounding areas our auto glass services and repair almost all kinds of auto glass, from windshields, sunroofs and mirrors, to back glass and side windows.

In the process of assessing the extent of the damage, we consider the following factors:

windsheild repair

  • Size: We are usually able to repair all cracks smaller than three inches and chips that are smaller than 3/8 inch, depending on the location and time that has passed since the damage occurred.
  • Location: Cracks or chips in your direct line of sight will always require a replacement, as a repair never will be 100% clear. Unfortunately, cracks at the edge of your windshield tend to spread and will also require a replacement.
  • Timespan: The longer you wait to have your windshield fixed, the more difficult it will be to repair. If the crack is too dirty we may not be able to perform a successful windshield repair, which leaves a replacement as your only option.

Glass Doctor of Utah County is a member of the Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC), which has established that in the case of an accident, approximately 45-60% of your vehicles’ architectural strength is determined by your windshield. The exact percentage is based on your vehicle and type of accident.

We work with all major U.S. insurance carriers, and even though we handle the insurance paperwork for you, it is strongly advised that you contact your local insurance agent before we begin.

Windshield Repair

Windshield repair has many advantages and is the approach we typically recommend. It is not only practical and convenient, but it is also more affordable and environmentally friendly. Best of all, with all these advantages, many insurance companies will waive your deductible and pay for the repair.

In the process of repairing your windshield, we remove all dirt and debris from the damaged area before injecting a special repair resin. The resin takes approximately one hour to cure, after which it is polished to a clear finish by our auto glass team.

Windshield Replacement

When a replacement is required, Glass Doctor of Utah County follows the guidelines developed by AGSC. In recent years, auto glass technology has evolved and now provides additional information to the driver in order to ensure maximal driving safety, including radio antennas and sensors measuring humidity, rain and temperature. We follow Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS®), the only auto glass replacement standard in America, which ensures that these features are kept in mind when installing a new windshield. The AGRSS ensures proper removal of your old windshield, the superior quality of the new windshield, which will match the quality of Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE), and that the council has approved all adhesives applied in the installation process.

All replacements are covered by our Windshield Protection Plan which guarantees that if your windshield is damaged within 12 months, we will repair or replace it for free at the original installation center.
