Windshield Chips vs. Cracks

The two most common problems that your windshield will encounter are cracks and chips. Both problems can happen suddenly, and they should be addressed quickly to prevent the damage from spreading.

There are a few key differences between chips and cracks that will determine whether you’ll be able to repair your windshield or will need to replace it. If the chip in your window is less than 9.5 mm, there is a very good chance it can be repaired. Larger chips and all cracks will necessitate windshield replacement.

Once we’ve determined a replacement is required, we’ll work with you to set up an appointment time that is convenient for you. In the meantime, our team will source an appropriate windshield that matches your vehicle’s make and model.

On the day of service, we’ll carefully remove your existing windshield, install your new windshield using an Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC)-approved adhesive, and then professionally recalibrate your vehicle’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Windshield Repair Process

When repairing your windshield, you can expect our team to:

  1. Inspect the windshield to confirm that it can be repaired and does not require replacement.
  2. Thoroughly clean the windshield, making sure there’s no dirt, dust, or grime embedded in the chip.
  3. Repair the windshield by injecting a special resin into the chip.
  4. Allow the resin to fully dry.
  5. Polish the surface of your windshield, ensuring the resin has a clear, perfectly transparent finish.
