How Double Pane Windows Work

Insulated glass, or double pane windows, works by trapping a layer of air between two panes of glass. This air acts as an insulator and absorbs the heat exchanges inside and outside your home to maintain a constant indoor temperature. For added insulation, some insulated glass units (IGUs) are filled with argon or krypton gas. To work properly, the seal around the panes must remain intact. If the glass becomes damaged, or the seal is broken, you may notice a buildup of moisture on the inside of the glass.
