Double Pane Windows
Indiana has extreme weather, and here in the Elkhart-Goshen area of the state, we also have lake-effect snow and ice added to the climate mix. Our stately, older buildings and homes have a hard time withstanding some of the harsh weather we see every year; glass windows and storefronts, if not properly sealed, will send heating bills through the roof. Glass Doctor® of Goshen has energy solutions that are good for our environment, your comfort and your budget.
How Modern Windows Work
Insulated glass units (IGUs) have two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer and sealed at the edge to help regulate the air inside your home. The spacer may be a warm-edge glass spacer or can be filled with a moisture-absorbing material called a desiccant. Some modern windows have argon or krypton gas inserted between the double pane windows for additional insulation. Then, the perimeter of the entire glass unit is sealed to prevent condensation between the panes. Insulated, double pane windows reduce the amount of heat from the outside during summer and in the winter, reduce heat transmittance from inside. As a result, your heating and air system should run less, conserving energy and saving money.
Window Glass Replacement
Visually inspect your windows. If you see any condensation under the panes or a milky appearance along the edges, you have broken window seals that need repair or replacement. Insulated, double pane windows are the most efficient, energy-saving solution.
Our specialists can install custom or standard glass windows and door panes to any room of your home. Glass Doctor of Goshen will always repair rather than replace glass because it’s the right thing to do for our ecology and saves our customers money. If it’s possible to maintain the integrity of your window by installing glass replacements in your existing frames, that’s what our glass specialists will do. We are able to completely replace the entire window unit if necessary.
