Windshield Repair and Replacement
A crack or chip in your windshield may appear to be just a minor problem, but it can actually be very serious. Your windshield provides up to 60% of your vehicle’s architectural strength in a rollover accident, and even slight damage can be enough to shatter the glass.
At Glass Doctor® of Auto of Moorhead, we offer both windshield repair and windshield replacement services. Our specialists will examine your car to determine what would be appropriate to fix the damage based on the following criteria:
- Size: Windshields with chips are usually possible to repair, provided they less than the size of a quarter. We are also able repair cracks if they are less than three inches long.
- Location: For a windshield repair to be possible, chips must be out of the driver’s line of sight, as the resin may leave a slight mark once cured. Cracks must not reach the edges of your windshield, as this makes them more likely to spread.
- Time of Damage: The longer you leave a damaged windshield without repairing it, the more debris builds up in the cracks or chips. If it is too difficult to remove dirt, a successful repair becomes impossible.
All three of the above factors emphasize just how important it is to bring your car to us for repair as early as possible.
Windshield Repair
There are several reasons why windshield repair is the preferable choice. First of all, it is less expensive, and your insurance company may even cover the entire cost without asking you to first meet your deductible. Secondly, it is fast - our specialists at Glass Doctor of Auto of Moorhead are able to complete the job in just one hour. Lastly, it has very little environmental impact, as, unlike windshield replacement, you can keep the same glass on your vehicle.
Here is how we repair your windshield: our specialists clean the crack or chip of dirt, in some cases, with the help of a special drill. They then inject resin into the impacted area and, once the resin is cured, polish it until it looks almost as smooth and clear as the surrounding glass.
Windshield Replacement
Sometimes windshield replacement is unavoidable. Luckily, you have the support of our specialists at Glass Doctor of Auto of Moorhead, all of whom are trained in carrying out this delicate procedure. We always follow the practices as advised by the Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC), including our choice of adhesives and the one-hour drive away time.
Our specialists begin by removing the windshield from your car, being careful not to damage the bonding or paintwork, which could cause problems in the future. They replace the old piece with a new windshield that matches the Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) quality.
After your windshield replacement, you will be eligible for our Windshield Protection Plan. This means that should you experience any damage under normal circumstances in the following 12 months, you will receive a windshield repair or replacement free of charge.
No matter how minor the damage is to your windshield, contact us at Glass Doctor of Auto of Moorhead to receive a repair or replacement service at your earliest convenience. We will work with your insurance company to handle all the paperwork — all you need to do is bring your car to us and take it back looking as good as new.
