Double Pane Windows
McCook's four season climate forces homes in the area to deal with the ravaging consequences of weather. These extremes take a toll on a home's windows, which are the main source of temperature exchange in any building. When a window is not properly sealed, it may leak climate controlled air and make your home drafty. Glass Doctor® of McCook will install insulated glass units (IGUs) which help to balance and regulate the interior climate of your home. We recommend every home owner consider installing IGUs. However, even with a double pane window, a type of insulated glass, you might experience similar issues when a seal is broken. A foggy, milky appearance or condensation under the panes are warning signs of broken seals. Our team will restore your panes to return the benefits of insulated glass units.
The Benefits of Multi-pane Windows
Insulated glass keeps hot air from transferring through the pane. Double pane windows will ultimately make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. During the winter months, IGUs reduce heat transmittance through your windows and help you to maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home. During warmer months, IGUs reduce heat gain from outside, allowing you to run your air conditioner less. An IGU consists of at least two individual panes of glass with an insulating spacer that separates the panes and seals the space between them. These spacers may be filled with a specialized moisture-absorbing material called a desiccant or with a warm-edge glass spacer. During installation, the perimeter of the entire unit is sealed with a high-grade sealant. The sealant prevents condensation from gathering on the interior panes. Some IGUs have krypton or argon gas added in the airspace between the glass panes for extra insulation.
