Windshield & Auto Glass Care in State College

Here at Glass Doctor® of State College, we're trained experts in all types of glass services including, auto glass repair and replacement. If your vehicle's windshield has suffered damage such as a chip or small crack, we can usually fix that in about an hour. We can also replace the entire windshield, if that's what's needed, as well as mirrors, side windows, sunroofs and rear windows.

Repair vs. Replacement

A damaged windshield should be taken care of as soon as possible. According to studies, about 45% of the architectural strength of a car involved in a head-on collision is due to an intact windshield. In a rollover accident, that number climbs to 60% or more.

A structurally sound front windshield is imperative to ensure the safety of the occupants riding in your vehicle; even a small crack or rock-chip reduces your windshield’s strength. These seemingly small problems can also quickly develop into something even more serious if they begin spreading.

Auto Glass Repair

It's always preferable to repair a vehicle’s windshield when possible for a variety of reasons:

  • Auto glass repair costs less than replacement
  • The process is quick - usually done in about an hour
  • Many insurance companies will cover the cost of a repair and even forgo your deductible amount
  • Keeping the factory-installed windshield in place lessens the chance of future leaks or other problems
  • Keeps another item from being tossed into the landfill

Auto glass repair can usually be done on small chips and cracks that are less than three inches long. If the damage is close to the perimeter of the windshield or in the driver's line of sight, the windshield must be replaced.

Most vehicle windshields are made from laminated glass, which allows us to use a special technique to repair chips or cracks. Side and back windows, however, are usually made from tempered, safety glass, meaning it will break up into small pieces upon impact. This prevents sharp, dangerous glass shards from posing a safety risk to passengers but also renders the window glass unfixable. These items can only be replaced.

Glass Doctor of State College auto glass repair services are available either at our shop or at a location convenient to you. Our mobile glass repair teams have what they need on their vehicles and can come to you for the repair.

Auto Glass Replacement

While we always repair if possible, you're guaranteed that when we provide a vehicle windshield replacement our auto glass specialists will go the extra mile to achieve excellence. We adhere to guidelines put forth by the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS®) and the Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC). All replacement windshields meet or exceed the quality standards of the original vehicle manufacturer and adhesives used are industry approved.

We take special care in the removal of the old windshield to ensure all surfaces are damage-free. We'll also match any options featured in the original factory-installed windshield, including things like radio antennas, temperature gauges and rain sensors. Adhesives are allowed to cure a minimum of one hour to affect a super-strong bond and to prevent future leaking or corrosion. Other vehicle glass parts, likely made from tempered glass, are replaced with industry-standard glass.

Windshield Guarantee

Every new windshield we install is coated in a unique protectant called Hydrophobic Coating and comes with a 12-month guarantee. Our Windshield Protection Plan provides repair or replacement of new windshields we've installed should they become broken or cracked due to normal road-hazard damage. Certain conditions apply.
