Passenger Safety Begins With Your Glass

Keeping your auto glass in good working order is a key component of vehicle maintenance. Regardless of the length of time passengers are riding in the car, you want to keep them safe at all times. A small crack in the rear windshield or back seat side window may not seem like a big deal. However, minor damage quickly turns into major damage, compromising the safety of your passengers. Hiring reputable auto glass care specialists, such as Glass Doctor® of North Vancouver, to complete glass repair in a timely fashion ensures you get your auto glass installed or repaired properly the first time around.

Safety glass

Laminated Glass

Windshields are made from a lamination process to offer the highest level of safety possible in the event of a crash. Laminated glass consists of two pieces of glass with a thin vinyl layer in the middle. The three pieces are fused together by applying heat and pressure in a specialized oven. When a little object hits laminated glass, generally the outer windshield layer takes the impact, leaving the two inner layers untouched.

Tempered Glass

The side and rear windows in a vehicle are made of tempered glass. Tempered glass is produced by heating the glass to over 590° C and then cooling it rapidly. The process of tempering the glass makes it many times stronger than standard glass with the same thickness. In the event of tempered glass damage, it separates into small, safe chunks about the size of rock salt. There won't be any large, jagged glass shards to injure the driver or passengers.

Windshield replacement

The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides every component of a car, including the windshield. Using OEM parts guarantees the parts meet the vehicle's original specifications for safety and quality. When you use non-OEM manufactured glass or aftermarket glass, you risk installing a windshield that doesn't fit your car precisely.

In the event you need to replace your windshield, request an OEM replacement. An OEM windshield fits the window frame, minimizing noise and leakage issues. OEM glass also offers enhanced overall functionality and general performance.
