From pebbles to unexpected accidents, you never know what will cause damage to your windshield. Your windshield is responsible for 60% of your vehicle's structural integrity during a rollover accident and 45% during a head on collision. Driving with a damaged windshield compromises the integrity of your car and your safety. No matter the cause of damage, it is extremely important that any repair or replacement be done in a timely manner. Fortunately, Glass Doctor® of Northwest Florida provides quick windshield repair and quality windshield replacement.

Windshield Repair and Replacement Service

If the damage to your windshield is addressed early enough, there is a good chance that windshield repair will be sufficient. To repair a windshield, our specialists drill a small hole into the glass and a resin is injected at the site of damage. The resin fills in the chip or crack, preventing the possibility of further expansion. The only time this may not be the best solution is when the damage has occurred in an area directly in the driver's line of sight. Repairs are completed in about an hour, and are a much less expensive alternative to replacement. Insurance companies tend to favor this option, and will sometimes pay for repairs in full and waive your deductible.

Replacement is necessary in some cases, even if the damage appears to be small. When a chip or crack occurs on the edge of the windshield, this is much more likely to spread quickly and indicates a replacement is necessary. Any damage larger than the size of a silver dollar also calls for the installation of a new windshield. Repairs that might distract the driver are also avoided because the repair technique could leave a large cloudy area on the windshield.

During replacement, the damaged windshield is removed and the whole frame is carefully cleaned. An adhesive is then applied around the frame and the new windshield is installed. It takes an hour for the bonding agent to cure and seal the structure. After the seal has solidified, your car regains its structural integrity.
